Volcanewt by Lizard Lair Games

What is Volcanewt

Volcanewt is an action game where you play as the Volcanewt, a giant lizard hell bent on destroying multiple cities run by the world-wide defense force. I served as producer and tech artist on the project from August 2023 to May 2024. My duties included but are not limited to creating documentation, balancing team hours, generating assets for use in the game and setting up art pipelines for the team to use.

What I learned:

Team management with a larger group than I am used to has led me to learning fast and improving my producer skills vastly. Interdepartmental conflicts and eliminating blockers to the games production have been the skills I've developed the most.

Artistically with the larger group and varied skillsets I have had to both learn to teach others while developing skills to increase the overall quality of our game.

  • Created concept for game and the Volcanewt.
  • Created initial art vision and plan for art development.
  • Creating 3D assets for Monument and other smaller assets.
  • Created materials for the Volcanewt, lava, water, rubble.
  • Animated and adjusted materials in game to suit games needs.
  • Added certain VFX including an explosion VFX.

Production

  • Contributed to and formatted relevant documentation including but not limited to the game design document and the art style guide.
  • Created tasks using Trello for team and organized those tasks into sprints for projects development.
  • Created time tables and breakdown charts to track tasks and hours.
  • Planned and led department and Scrum meetings for the team.
